Devi Mamak, member & artistic director of Ghawazi Caravan is one of Australia’s premier Tribal dancers, teachers & choreographers.
Devi has studied a variety of different dance styles including Classical & Folkloric Egyptian, Odissi, Flamenco & Ballet but has largely turned her focus to ATS(r) since the late nineties. Devi started her training with her first teacher Kaiya Seaton in the mid 90’s before discovering ATS(r) in 1999 & started studying intensively with Carolena Nericcio . Devi was the first in the southern hemisphere to become a sister studio, with several of Ghawazi Caravan steps being accepted into the FCBD(r) format and presented on the FCBD(r) DVD Volume 9, Anatomy of a step.
In recent years Devi has turned her focus on combining her years of experience in these various dance styles with her decades of experience as a classically trained pianist, composer and teacher, blending her knowledge of movement and music in an artistic and organic way. This translates onto stage and in her teaching. As a teacher Devi is renowned throughout Australia, NZ, Asia, U.S.A & Europe for her creative, thorough & approachable teaching style & her beautiful & commanding stage presence.
When Devi is not travelling for dance you will find her at home with her partner and 2 children, playing the piano and doing a little gardening.
